The cathedral as the bishop's church

Since 1923 Brunswik cathedral has been the main place for the preaches of the bishop of the Lutheran-Prostetant regional church in Brunswik. Since 2002 it is Prof. Dr. Friedrich Weber who preaches here once a month on Sundays as well as on high churchs feasts. In his function as bishop of the regional church Prof. Dr. Friedrich Weber is responsible for general matters concerning the direction of the church, spiritual welfare for priests and any other member of the stuff, ordination and visitation.

In his function he is the chairman of the confederation of all Prostetant churches in Lower Saxony, representative of the united Lutheran-Prostestan church in Germany (VELKD) for Catholica, leader of the board of trustees of the interconfessional institute of the Protestant church in Germany (EKD) and chairman of the working group for Christian churches (ACK).

Concerning culture and cultural policy Prof. Dr. Friedrich Weber is chairman of the university council of Brunswik University (TU), member of the board of trustees of the library (HAB) in Wolfenbüttel and deputy chairman of the foundation « Braunschweiger Kulturbesitz »
